This is my second yellow lab. My first died of cancer at 12 1/2 last
summer. This lab, I had her bred by the same breeder, came from a
litter of two, never was "homesick" for the litter, and just moved in
with us like she has always been here. She, from day one, has never
barked or whined. I can put her in the crate for hours and she
doesn't ever cry to get out. Our other lab cried or whined from the
day we got her, did not bark excessively ever, but did bark. Ever
heard of a lab not barking? >> Stay informed about: My lab doesn't bark or whine, is that normal? - elphie goo.. |

I looked around for this on the internet as I was curious. Seems some dogs
never bark.
One person took their dog to the vet because it was not barking, then the
dog barked at another dog at the vets!
Then a trainer got a non barking dog to bark by pretending to attack the
dog's owner.
Another person gave the dog "barking lessons" by playing sounds of other
dogs barking.

java, my 7 1/2 y.o. girl, has barked three times sofar, two of which because
i excited her while playing.
last summer we were in a farmhouse accomodation and she growled and barked
as a ward dog -- which she never does, was quite funny -- when she saw
another lab girl in the house nearby.
the male i dogsitted before her never barked too in his life.

Hi Don ,
Some breeds do not bark.
Retriever is one , and Labradors I believe are another.
Well don't bark much.
My Labrador doesn't bark very much.
She has learned it gets her what she wants.
A very good excuse to bark.
Don don't knock it , a least it doesn't get you into trouble with the
neighbours.

I had a Yellow Lab for 12 1/2 years who only bark for normal reasons,
not just to bark. I absolutely love this lab for not barking, and
more importantly, not crying or whining to get something. She is a
joy and I loved my other lab so much, this one is her clone, almost,
except for the non barking and non whining.
