Archived from groups: alt>pets>dogs>labrador (more info?)

Well we have our dogs pet passport sorted and off we go to greece
in August. Usually we would travel over April and come back Nov,
so the weather would be cooler.

My question, what can I do to make sure my dog does not suffer
too much from the heat while travelling. We do have air
conditioning (Range Rover - I mention this as she will be in the
rear boot area and not right near to the air con vents). I think
the car will cool all through but obviously the sun pouring
through the windows, I hope!, might make it hotter.

Should we have a draught blowing on her from an open window too,
or should she be OK if the car is cool? Should she have water
more often than once or twice during a 350 mile trip (average
each day).

Not so bothered when we get to our Greek home as it is on the
coast, has air con and nice cold tiled floors just for her !
Thanks for any info.

Jane

Put sun shade on the windows in the rear to prevent the sun from pouring in.

I think clean cool water should always be available for our dogs at all
times.

And of course, so do I, but if you can tell me how to do this in
a moving car I would be grateful. I have not come across any non
spill water containers, but then you may know of some.
THanks

in a conditioned car it shouldnt be an issue -- not while running.

for years we've taken our dog to sardinia, whose temp is similar or hotter
than greece (i've been there), and she's always been ok.

in case, java uses to drink when we stop. during travel, she never wants to
eat or drink.
of course, i never leave her in the sun-exposed parked car, not even for 5
minutes. the car becomes an oven in really little time, as you sure know.

rather, i'd be a bit careful with the temp differential between the
conditioned car and outside. i guess it can be as dangerous as it is for
people, if greater than 5-10' celsius.

sort of a curtain could be useful. i never used it, but our sw is cool
enough in the luggage area too.

Put it in a small bucket and fill the water part way.
